While we tee up every week with the goal of winning, a golfer’s career is ultimately measured by their performance in the Major. So, history and legacy means a lot to me, even more so after winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational this year. When you look at the achievements of Nicklaus, Palmer or Woods, you realize why the Majors carry such immense weight because they represent the standard those legends set. This is the chase that will bring together the entire top-100 and more of world golf at the PGA Championship as it returns to the Aronimink Golf Club. It is a gruelling, traditional test: long, tree-lined and guarded by thick rough and lightning-fast greens.
I came close at the Players last year and finished tiedthird, won a Signature event this season and have teed off at the play-offs, but to contend on the back nine on Sunday at the Majors is what professional golfers dream of.Earlier this year, I travelled to India with high hopes for the Hero Indian Open, only to miss the cut. It was a humbling reminder. At nearly two and a half feet tall, the Wanamaker Trophy is one of the most imposing prizes in sports. I’m ready to take my shot.(AKSHAY BHATIA, A 3-TIME WINNER ON THE PGA TOUR, IS ALSO A GLOBAL BRAND AMBASSADOR OF HERO MOTOCORP).
