Yesha Harsora: Audiences today are much more expressive, mainly because of social media

Jagadhatri actress Yesha Harsora believes that over the years, audiences have become far more vocal and expressive about what they like or dislike. She feels social media platforms are to be credited for it, as they deliver reactions and feedback instantly. She said, “I think audiences today are much more expressive, mainly because of social media. People share their opinions instantly, whether it is appreciation or criticism. For us as actors, it’s quite interesting because we get to understand what connects with people in real time.”“Earlier, feedback would take time to reach us, but now the response is immediate, and that gives us a clearer idea of how viewers are feeling about the show and the character,” she added. She also feels the audiences today watch a lot of global content, and naturally their expectations have evolved. She said, “They look for more depth, authenticity, and stronger storytelling. As actors, the only way to adapt is to keep learning and improving. I believe bringing honesty to every performance is very important because audiences today can easily tell when something feels real and when it doesn’t.”Yesha was quick to point out that instant feedback definitely makes an actor more aware of how the audience is responding. She said, “You can see their reactions almost immediately after an episode airs. But at the same time, I feel it’s important not to get too overwhelmed by it. As actors, we still need to stay focused on the story and the character rather than constantly thinking about reactions.”She also mentioned that audiences today observe things more closely and said, “They notice small details in performances, storytelling, and even the behavior of characters. Because of that, it motivates you to be more mindful about your work and put in extra effort to make your character believable.”But she feels emotional connection makes the audience stay loyal to certain shows or characters. She said, “When viewers truly relate to a character or feel invested in their journey, they naturally stay connected to the show. No matter how many content options exist, that emotional bond is what keeps people coming back.”And she thanks the audience for pushing her to evolve as a performer. “When you see people connecting with your work, it automatically pushes you to do better. It encourages you to explore different shades in your performance and grow as an actor. In that sense, audience expectations can actually become a positive motivation for improvement,” Yesha ended.
