Those travellers who are preparing for travel within India in the coming seven days will need to brace themselves for various disruptive weather phenomena, as the IMD has predicted heavy rains, thunderstorms, hailstorms, thundersqualls, and heatwave phenomena in different parts of the country up to May 14. As per the All India Weather Summary and Forecast Bulletin (Night), a few popular tourist routes such as the Himalayan region, northeast India, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, and some parts of central and eastern India may experience unpredictable weather phenomena.As per the IMD, a new western disturbance is predicted to impact the Western Himalayan Region from May 10, leading to yet another rainy spell for North India. Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand can expect rainfall, thunderstorms, strong gusty winds, and isolated hailstorms. Thundersqualls with winds blowing up to 70 km per hour have been predicted for the regions of Uttarakhand and Jammu & Kashmir. The hill stations are expected to experience slippery roads, blockades, and delay due to the weather.Northeastern India too is likely to continue experiencing an active rain spell. Regions like Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura will experience widespread rainfall with accompanying thunderstorms and gusty winds. Heavy rainfall has been predicted over Arunachal Pradesh between May 13 and 14, while for Assam and Meghalaya, the period is May 12 to 14. Visitors to places like Shillong, Cherrapunji, Kaziranga, Tawang, and Ziro might be subjected to poor visibility, waterlogged areas, and landslide-prone routes due to rains.

Eastern India will also be experiencing strong weather conditions in the coming days. Rain and thunderstorms would likely occur in Bihar, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, Orissa, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim. Very strong thundersqualls having wind velocities of up to 70 kilometers per hour have been forecasted in Bihar, Jharkhand, and Gangetic West Bengal. Activities of hailstorm have also occurred in some regions of Jharkhand & West Bengal. This weather condition might disrupt road travel and train schedules in the affected regions, especially in the evenings and at night when thunderstorm activities become more pronounced.On the other hand, South India is still being subjected to pre-monsoon weather conditions. Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Lakshadweep, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Telangana, and Rayalaseema will experience thunderstorms and gusty winds throughout the week. According to IMD, isolated heavy rainfall is expected in Kerala and Tamil Nadu within the coming seven days. Heavy rainfall will also be experienced in Lakshadweep and South Interior Karnataka during parts of the forecast period. Popular holiday spots for tourists visiting beaches and hills during summer vacations may experience sudden weather disruptions, leading to flash floods in some low-lying areas.Whereas most regions of India are gearing up for rains, the Western region of India is bound to continue with the struggle against extreme heat. The conditions of heatwave are going to prevail in Saurashtra, Kutch, and West Rajasthan, whereas the conditions of heatwave might emerge in the state of Gujarat starting from May 9. Barmer in Rajasthan witnessed the maximum temperature of the country, with 44.6 degree Celsius in the day on May 8. IMD has advised travellers to avoid prolonged sun exposure, stay hydrated, and limit outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours.Konkan and Goa are also likely to witness hot and humid weather in coming days. Whereas rains and thunderstorms can occur in isolated places in the state of Maharashtra, it will still be humid in most parts, especially on the coastline.IMD further warns travellers about the possibility of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms that might cause localized flooding, traffic problems, low visibility, destruction of fragile infrastructure, and interruptions in transport services. Travellers should stay updated with weather news and avoid waterlogging roads.
