The Artifact Exhibition sails to Great Lakes Science Center

Date:

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – Whether you are a Titanic history enthusiast or curious learner, you can immerse yourself in the legendary Ship of Dreams as the exhibit sails to Cleveland at the Great Lakes Science Center.

TITANIC: The Artifact Exhibition opens May 21 and will stay through Jan. 18, 2027.

THE ARTIFACTS

“The Exhibition offers a powerful and emotional journey through one of history’s most iconic tragedies,” GLSC shared. “Featuring over 200 authentic artifacts recovered from the wrecksite that tell the story of the Ship and her passengers and crew, life-size reconstructions of the Ship’s most famous rooms, and the most historically accurate Titanic VR experience ever, guests will be provided with a deeper understanding of the Ship and her legacy.”

“TITANIC: The Artifact Exhibition also explores the contemporary effort to recover artifacts and conserve the site for scientific analysis and historical preservation ensuring future generations can learn from Titanic,” GLSC detailed.

While Titanic sank approximately 1,575 miles away from Cleveland 114 years ago, this exhibition brings this iconic point in history close to home.

GLSC said it will “include the stories of passengers with ties to Ohio, offering a meaningful local perspective on Titanic’s legacy.”

VIRTUAL REALITY TOUR

While a Titanic artifact exhibition has been held at the Great Lakes Science Center before, this new experience will stand out from anything you’ve seen before.

A virtual reality experience that gives you a 360-degree recreation to take you back in time is now in the United States for the first time, and Cleveland is one of the five lucky cities its debuting in.

It was produced in collaboration with Titanic: Honor & Glory, a video game which features a complete digital recreation of the legendary ship.

This virtual reality guided tour shows you Titanic as passengers and crew would have as they boarded on April 11, 1912, including these areas:

  • first-class lounge
  • Turkish baths
  • boiler rooms
  • engineer rooms
  • wheelhouse
  • inside the lifeboats with a view of Titanic’s final moments before fully sinking into the Atlantic

“It is the most detailed and complete VR tour of Titanic ever created, including areas of the Ship that weren’t previously visible to the public,” GLSC stated.

VOICES OF THE TITANIC

Another Titanic experience you can explore for the first time – not just in the United States, but anywhere, on a domed-format screen – is the Voices of the Titanic Immersive Experience.

The experience projected on the Great Lakes Science Center’s Cleveland Clinic DOME Theater “begins with a view of Titanic at sea before passing through the Belfast shipyard where she was built and then a view of her at port, visiting the grand staircase and other areas on board. During the journey through the Ship, passenger accounts tell the story of Titanic and her voyage in their own words, giving guests a firsthand account of the experience.”

TICKETS

To get the most in-depth experience, the White Star Line package bundles all of the above Titanic exhibition attractions together, plus general admission into the Great Lakes Science Center.

TITANIC: The Artifact Exhibition tickets are redeemable for any date Great Lakes Science Center is open from May 21 to Jan. 18, 2027, so no date or time reservation is required.
