Symptoms, causes, and risks affecting over 90% in India

Date:

As per research reports and large-scale reviews, including a 2018 study published in the Indian Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism, Vitamin D deficiency is widespread in India, with many studies showing 80–90% prevalence, especially among women. Limited sun exposure, cultural clothing practices, and diets low in Vitamin-D–rich foods make women particularly vulnerable. In comparison, about 35% of U.S. adults are affected. Deficiency commonly manifests as fatigue, aching bones, muscle weakness, and reduced daily vitality. Levels below 20 ng/mL indicate a problem, below 12 ng/mL require urgent treatment, while 30 ng/mL or above is considered optimal. Early detection helps prevent brittle bones, infections, and mood disturbances, underscoring the need for awareness and regular testing.
