Kaitlyn Terry threw another gem as she improved to 22-1 in the circle. The lefty allowed just two hits and one walk while striking out nine batters and needing just 79 pitches to do so. Terry also went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored as she did it all for the Red Raiders.
Tech struck four home runs and used 13 hits and five walks to put up its 14 runs. Jackie Lis, Taylor Pannell, Desirae Spearman and Jasmyn Burns all hit home runs as Tech is up to 125 on the year. Lis and Burns are both at 17 on the season as Lis also recorded her 200th career RBI.
Mihyia Davis is now 5-for-6 during the tournament after going 3-for-3 with a pair of RBI today thanks to her fifth triple of the year. Mia Williams added an RBI double and is now second in program history for doubles in a season (20). Lauren Allred recorded two runs after picking up a hit and reaching on a walk. Spearman and Burns bounced back at the plate as Spearman went 2-for-2 and Burns 2-for-4.
How it Happened:
Terry set a similar tone from the quarterfinal round, striking out two batters and leaving a batter stranded on first after a walk. Tech worked two walks of their own and Burns took advantage of the opportunity with runners on a slashed an opposite field home run to give her team an early 3-0 lead.
Terry struck out two more in the second and third innings to keep it a 3-0 game going into the bottom half of the third. Lis led off Tech’s half of the inning with a solo shot to left field and after a single by Terry and a walk by Allred, Pannell cleared the bases with a three-run shot to left field to make it 7-0. Spearman took a 3-0 pitch over the left field fence as well for the fifth and final run of the inning to put the game in run-rule territory.
The Jayhawk’s hot bats continued to be cooled off by Terry as she sat the Kansas offense down in order again, adding another strikeout. In Tech’s final at-bats of the game they reached base five straight times, four by way of a single and one via error. The Red Raiders pushed their lead to 11-0 during that stretch and Davis added two more runs quickly with a triple to right center field. Williams added the final run of the game on a double down the left field line before Kansas got the final out.
Kansas had runners on the corners with one out after a hit by pitch and a single, but Terry kept the shutout in tack, striking out the final two batters and making five-straight shutout wins for the Red Raiders in the Big 12 Tournament.
