Game 30 Preview: Tigers head to Atlanta to take on Braves

Date:

The Detroit Tigers wrap up their nine-game interleague schedule this week by heading south to face the Atlanta Braves starting on Tuesday night.

After taking two out of three from the Milwaukee Brewers at home before dropping two of three at the Cincinnati Reds, the Motor City Kitties move on to face the top team in the majors for the final third of the National League swing. Coming into the series, the Tigers are also a top team — they are now perched above the rest of their American League Central peers with a half-game lead over the Cleveland Guardians. They also have a decided advantage in starting pitching with their three best starters working against the Braves.

Opening things up for the Olde English D is right-hander Casey Mize, who has been pitching better than ever in 2026. The last time the splitter-thrower faced the Braves was on Sept. 21, 2025, when he gave up three runs on five hits (one home run) while walking three and striking out five over 5 2/3 innings to earn his final loss of the season.

Taking the mound for the home team is left-hander Martín Pérez, who has started thrice while coming out of the pen twice this season. He faced the Tigers three times last season with the Chicago White Sox, with his final outing on Sept. 6 resulting in a loss after surrendering six runs on five hits (two home runs) while walking three and striking out nobody over four frames.

The Tigers went 8-5 over a 13 day stretch without a break until Monday’s off day. Winning this series in Atlanta won’t be easy, but it would set them up well coming home this weekend for just the second homestand of the season that is more than one series in duration. They’ll face the Rangers and then the Red Sox next week.
