The change has been implemented in accordance with the provisions of the National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008, which govern toll fee determination and collection across national highways in the country. The FASTag Annual Pass, which was rolled out on August 15, 2025, is expected to make travel on highways hassle-free for private vehicle owners. Since its launch, the response to the scheme has been overwhelming, with over 56 lakh people subscribing to the FASTag Annual Pass. The new toll charge will be applicable for eligible non-commercial vehicles such as cars, jeeps, and vans that possess a valid FASTag. Users can avail the pass for travel across approximately 1,150 fee plazas located on national highways and national expressways across India. As per the new scheme, the user will have to pay the charges once for the activation of the annual pass. After the activation of the annual pass, it will be valid for one year or 200 toll plaza transactions, whichever is earlier. The benefit would be applicable to all fee plazas on national highways, irrespective of the toll charges at each of the plazas.Vehicle owners with a functional FASTag can activate the annual pass by making the payment through the Rajmarg Yatra mobile application or via the official website of the National Highways Authority of India. After payment, the pass is typically activated on the existing FASTag linked to the vehicle within two hours.Officials say the growing adoption of the FASTag Annual Pass reflects its appeal as a convenient and cost-effective travel option for regular highway users. The new scheme is also a part of the efforts being made to make the tolling process more efficient. The government has been working towards making the tolling process more efficient as part of its efforts to develop the national highway network in the country.
