Dayton James Webber, a professional cornhole player, is now at the center of a serious criminal case in Maryland. Police say the 27-year-old is accused of shooting and killing a man who was sitting in the front passenger seat of his car. The incident happened on Sunday, according to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office. Webber, who is known for playing cornhole as a quadriplegic athlete, was later taken into custody after officers tracked him across state lines. Authorities say the case is still under investigation, and more details could come out as they continue their work.

According to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, Dayton James Webber was driving his car when an argument started between him and the man sitting next to him, Bradrick Michael Wells. Two other people were sitting in the back seat at the time, and they later told police what they saw.Witnesses said the argument quickly got worse. They told officers that Webber then pulled out a gun and shot Bradrick Michael Wells. Police say both men were 27 years old and knew each other before the incident.After the shooting, witnesses said Webber stopped the car and asked them to help remove the body. They told police they refused to do that. Instead, they got out of the car and left the scene. Authorities say Webber then drove away with Bradrick Michael Wells still inside the vehicle.Later that day, police received a call about a body found in a yard. Officers arrived and identified the victim as Bradrick Michael Wells. He was declared dead at the scene.During the investigation, officers were able to locate Webber’s car in Charlottesville, Virginia. Police then found him at a nearby hospital, where he was reportedly seeking treatment for what they described as a medical issue.The Albemarle County Police Department took him into custody. He was booked as a fugitive from justice. Authorities say he will be sent back to Maryland, where he is expected to face charges including first-degree murder, second-degree murder, and other related charges.Webber had previously spoken publicly about his life as a quadriplegic athlete. In 2023, he wrote about his journey in an essay for Today, where he shared his experience playing professional cornhole with the American Cornhole League.Police have said the investigation is still ongoing. They are asking anyone who may have more information about the case to come forward and contact authorities.
