Bhubaneswar, April 27 (IANS) The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes has issued a notice to the Odisha Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes Development, Minorities and Backward Classes Welfare Department, as well as to the Collector and Superintendent of Police of Mayurbhanj, seeking an Action Taken Report on the death of a tribal minor student and the mass illness of students at an ashram school in the district due to suspected food poisoning.​

Dumka: A 22-year-old woman was stabbed to death allegedly by her husband in Sahibganj district on Sunday night. The police on Monday said Sanir Sheikh, 25, the husband of deceased, Momena Khatun, had been arrested, while a hunt is underway to arrest his three accomplices who are on the run.Police suspected Momena was killed over dowry.Momena, a resident of Pahargaon village under Radhanagar police station limits, was married to Sanir four months ago. Momena’s father Jarjesh Sheikh claimed she was being harassed for dowry soon after her marriage. “Due to continuous harassment, my daughter was staying with us for the past two months,” Jarjeesh said.Sanir is a resident of Mirzapur Sahibganj village under Barharwa police station limits of the district.Around 11 pm on Sunday, Momena returned home from a local gathering with her younger sister and went to sleep. A short while later, Sanir entered the house with his associates, dragged her out of the room to the veranda, and stabbed her multiple times. The men reportedly fled the scene after Momena’s daughter raised an alarm. Momena was taken to the sub-divisional Hospital in Rajmahal, where doctors declared her dead. Rajmahal sub-divisional police officer Vimlesh Tripathi said a team was formed comprising officers from Radhanagar, Rajmahal and Barharwa police stations. “Sanir was arrested around 2 am from a mango orchard in Barharwa while efforts are underway to arrest the others,” he said.An FIR was filed by Jarjesh against Sanir and three others, including one unknown.
