Pakistan's Shan Masood included in ICC's special jury to pick greatest cricketers of last 25 years

NEW DELHI: Pakistan Test captain Shan Masood has been named in the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) special jury formed to select the greatest international cricketers of the last 25 years. His inclusion has caught many by surprise, especially with Pakistan currently struggling in the ongoing Test series against Bangladesh.Masood is one of two representatives from Pakistan on the panel, alongside legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram. According to reports, the Pakistan Cricket Board recommended Masood’s name while the ICC was finalising the jury. Despite criticism over Pakistan’s recent Test performances, the PCB reportedly believes Masood’s cricketing knowledge and leadership experience make him suitable for such a role. The ICC panel includes several prominent former and current cricketers from around the world. India is represented by Ajit Agarkar, Irfan Pathan, Cheteshwar Pujara and Ravi Shastri. Other notable names include David Gower, Ian Bishop, Mark Boucher, Greg Chappell, Matthew Hayden, Faf du Plessis, Shane Watson and Eoin Morgan.

Future uncertain for Masood

Masood’s future as Pakistan Test captain remains uncertain. Pakistan are staring at another defeat in Bangladesh, which could increase pressure on the left-handed batter. Reports suggest he may now reconsider taking up a senior administrative role with the PCB.Last year, Masood had reportedly been offered the post of Director International Cricket and Players Affairs by the board. However, he declined the offer at the time because he wanted to complete the current ICC World Test Championship cycle as captain.Reports now indicate that Masood could be more open to accepting the role, considering his academic background and growing experience in leadership positions within Pakistan cricket.
