While shooting for their 1999 film ‘Dil Kya Kare’, Mahima had a horrific car accident in Bengaluru that left her face severely injured by shattered glass. When the young actress feared her career was over, Ajay Devgn stepped in to ensure she received treatment from a top plastic surgeon rather than a regular doctor, while keeping the entire incident hidden from the media to protect her future in the film industry.
Mahima Chaudhry names her most caring co-star
During her appearance on The Kapil Sharma Show, Mahima was asked by Kapil Sharma to name the most caring co-star she had worked with. Without hesitation, she named Ajay Devgn and said, “He was the producer of the film when I had the accident, and he took me to the right person. You know, otherwise, any other producer during our times, they would have just said go and all that. I would have gotten my face stitched from anyone, but he said that you have to go to a plastic surgeon.“
The accident during ‘Dil Kya Kare’ shoot
The accident happened in Bengaluru while Mahima was filming ‘Dil Kya Kare’ alongside Ajay Devgn and Kajol. According to Mahima, her car collided with a milk truck that was allegedly moving in the wrong direction. The impact shattered the windows and glass pieces struck her face and it caused multiple injuries. The incident was traumatic and raised concerns about whether she would be able to continue her acting career.
Ajay Devgn and Prakash Jha kept her secret
In another interview, Mahima said Ajay Devgn and director Prakash Jha offered unwavering support during her recovery. She revealed that she requested both of them not to disclose details of the accident. At the time, she worried that widespread publicity about her injuries might affect her prospects in the film industry.Directed by Prakash Jha, the film also featured Chandrachur Singh in a prominent role. ‘Dil Kya Kare’ was only her second film as a leading actress. The movie also featured actress Kajol in the role of Nandita Rai.
