Dr Sandeep Mittal receives prestigious UK medical honour.

MEERUT: Senior ophthalmologist from Uttar Pradesh and former principal of Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial Medical College, Meerut, Prof. Dr. Sandeep Mittal has been conferred with the prestigious “Fellow of Royal Surgeons” title by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, UK, in recognition of his exceptional contribution to ophthalmic care and medical science. The honour was bestowed on Wednesday, during a grand ceremony attended by distinguished guests.Dr. Mittal began his medical journey in 1976 after earning an MS in Ophthalmology from S.N. Medical College, Agra. Soon after, he started his professional career as a Pool Officer at Dr. Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences. He later served as a lecturer in Jhansi before being transferred to LLRM Medical College, Meerut, in 1989.Selected through the Public Service Commission, Dr. Mittal served as Reader from 1989 and as Professor from 1993 until his retirement in 2020. Between 1998 and 2010, he headed the Advanced Ophthalmology Department at LLRM Medical College. He later went on to serve as Dean and Principal of the institution for three years.Throughout his academic career, Dr. Mittal guided more than 200 postgraduate dissertations, published over 80 scientific papers, and delivered 162 scientific presentations at state, national and international conferences. Reflecting on his teaching career, he said that his students taught him as much as he taught them.
